If you’ve had a difficult or troubling experience around assisted dying — you’re not alone.

Whether you are:

  • Personally considering assisted dying

  • Living with a terminal condition

  • A family member feeling uneasy or concerned

  • Someone who suspects pressure, coercion, or poor practice

  • Or someone whose loved one has gone through assisted dying — and it’s left a lasting impact on you or your family

If something hasn’t felt right, it’s worth speaking up.

From subtle pressure to serious breaches of the law, any form of abuse or misconduct must be addressed. Your experience could help protect others and bring accountability where it’s needed. By coming forward and sharing your story, you can also help shed light on the hidden pain and real experiences many New Zealanders never see — giving others a clearer understanding of the true impact of this practice.

We can help connect you with a network of experienced healthcare professionals, lawyers, and advocates who understand these situations and can help explore next steps — confidentially.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to take the first step. Share your story or reach out today.

When Care Becomes Conflict: A Call to New Zealand’s Healthcare Professionals

Since the introduction of assisted dying under the End of Life Choice Act 2019, a growing number of healthcare professionals in New Zealand have found themselves navigating deeply complex ethical territory.

For many, medicine has always been about care, comfort, and protecting life. Yet now, some clinicians are being asked to participate in — or work alongside — practices that intentionally end it. Historically, key medical bodies in New Zealand have opposed euthanasia, warning it risks undermining both patient protection and the ethical foundation of medicine.

Recent reports and firsthand accounts suggest this is not just theoretical. There are increasing concerns about strain on healthcare services, rising demand, and the emotional and moral pressure placed on doctors and nurses working in end-of-life care. Some clinicians have begun speaking out — quietly — about what they are seeing: uncertainty, lack of oversight, and the personal toll of being involved in, or adjacent to, assisted dying decisions.

If that’s you, you are not alone. At Voice For Life, we can help connect you with a wider network of professionals who are facing similar challenges.

Speak Out

If your conscience has been challenged. If you’ve felt pressure — subtle or direct — to compromise your professional or moral boundaries. If you’ve witnessed practices that don’t sit right. Your voice matters.

We realise speaking up can feel risky. Healthcare environments can be tight-knit, and raising concerns can come at a personal cost. But bringing light to questionable practices is how systems improve, how patients are protected, and how others — who may feel just like you — find the courage to step forward. We will provide confidentiality.

By sharing your experience, you:

  • Help ensure accountability in a life-and-death system

  • Strengthen protections for both patients and practitioners

  • Encourage others who are silently struggling

  • Contribute to a more honest national conversation

You are not alone. And your voice could be the one that helps others find theirs.

You Don’t Have to Struggle Alone

Whatever you’re facing, there is support available — and people who understand.

Across New Zealand, a range of organisations are equipped to help with emotional, practical, and personal challenges:

The right support can make all the difference.
