Mainstream Media's Lack of Credibility as Abortion Numbers Rise

If anyone is unsure about why the mainstream media is plagued by such a serious crisis of credibility, and is no longer considered a trustworthy source of unbiased information, they need look no further than the article about abortion published by Radio New Zealand on 3 January 2026.

Not only did this article have zero balance, but the only person they chose to interview for it is also an abortionist who spent 15 years (from 2007 until 2022) as one of the directors of the NZ company that imports abortion drugs.

The serious conflicts of interest don’t end there though. He was also the person who set up the 0800 dial-an-abortion-pill service in New Zealand, and he has spent years actively lobbying for increasing the number of abortion facilities in this country.

So we should hardly be surprised when we hear him trying to defend the massive 37% increase in abortions that has resulted on the back of the passing of the extreme Abortion Legislation Act in 2020 and the subsequent establishment of his DIY dial-an-abortion-pill service.

This article is a shocking example of woefully biased pro-abortion propaganda, where one of the very people who should be held accountable by the media for the massive increase in abortions is effectively allowed to wave away the harm he has actively contributed to by claiming this increase in harm is a good thing.

The fact that the Abortion Legislation Act (2020) was a personal political project of Jacinda Ardern could explain why a mainstream media outlet would be publishing this kind of content.

But here’s the thing: there is something deeper going on here that we should take note of.

Even though the Radio NZ article effectively seems to be trying to downplay the horrific 37% increase in abortions that came about as a direct result of the Abortion Legislation Act, it actually ends up revealing two other important things.

Firstly, previous claims from supporters of the extreme Abortion Legislation Act that it would not result in a major increase in abortions were not just false, but, if we are to take Simon Snook at his word in this article, the architects of that law actually wanted this and actively worked to bring about this shocking increase in abortions.

Secondly, the only reason that Radio NZ is even publishing this kind of defence of the massive year-on-year increase in abortions (the first of its kind since the law changed in 2020, as far as we can tell, is a sign that the public spotlight that Voice For Life and others have given this issue is being noticed and is causing more people to question the legitimacy of our extreme abortion law.

One of the most effective ways you can combat the misinformation is to keep pointing your friends and family to reliable pro-life sources, like Voice For Life, so that they can hear the whole truth about abortion, not just one-sided pro-abortion activism disguised as journalism.
